The following chart and information is intended as a comprehensive resource for Persian 6-1. If you are trying to cross reference sizes from instructions like a book - Make sure to use millimeters not gauge! There are 2 gauge systems and this makes using gauge confusing unless you know what the instructions use. Both gauges are listed below.
Also note the mm size for ID is approximate. The actual ring size will be close enough - so no worries if its not exactly what is shown.
Like all weaves, Persian 6-1 looks best when made with rings of the correct size. The perfect Persian 6-1 is close to an Aspect Ratio (AR) of 5.5. The weave can be made using as low as about AR 4.9 but it becomes rigid - this is fine for earrings and keychains for example but not bracelets. Click here if you would like to see an explanation of AR.. Persian 6-1 is a forgiving weave and can be made with much larger rings.

* Please Note: Tighter Rigid Sizes are not beginner. Tighter weaves are harder to make - the rings are more difficult to get into place and requires some plier technique and in some cases better pliers. ** Please Note: 16g 11/32" is a perfect Persian 6-1 size. This ring size is available standard in some materials like saw cut Stainless and as a custom size in most materials. We recommend the slightly tigher or looser in Anodized Aluminum in 16g. *** Please Note: 22g 9/64" is a perfect Persian 6-1 size. This ring size is available as a custom size in most materials - please email for a quote.
Persian 6-1 math: You can estimate the number of rings needed for a certain length - the answers using this technique are in the chart above. I have adjusted them based on actual counts - the tightness of the weave makes a difference. Basically the length of Persian 6-1 is made up of lined up inside diameters half at 4 rings wide. This works out to the IDs lined up and multiplied by 4.
1"/(ID of ring in inches) *4 = # rings per inch So using this 1"/(0.25")*4 = 16 rings per inch
Make sure to round up - this is an estimate!
