Byzantine is a perfect beginner weave - it is easy to learn and rewarding.
Byzantine Kits The kits below are quick and simple way to get started.
Byzantine instructions are free with any purchase. They are included with any kit. If you do not wish to get a kit simply add the instructions to your cart below.
There are way too many possibilities of materials and sizes to show them all as kits. We have pre-selected some materials and sizes below. This weave also has some popular variants - some of which are in the kits.
For beginners I recommend getting a kit to start learning - then if you like you can add more materials, colors and elements to spice it up.
The connectors on Byzantine can quite easily be replaced with fancier elements like beads, rubber rings, twisted rings or shapes.
Average bracelets are around 6-8", anklets are around 10"-12", womens chokers start at 16"-18", mens chokers are around 20"-24"

The following chart and information is intended as a comprehensive resource for Byzantine. If you are trying to cross reference sizes from instructions like a book - Make sure to use millimeters not gauge! There are 2 gauge systems and this makes using gauge confusing unless you know what the instructions use. Both gauges are listed below.
Also note the mm size for ID is approximate. The actual ring size will be close enough - so no worries if its not exactly what is shown.
Like all weaves, Byzantine looks best when made with rings of the correct size. The perfect Byzantine is close to (but not less than) an Aspect Ratio (AR) of 3.4. Click here if you would like to see an explanation of AR. Byzantine is a forgiving weave and can be made with much larger rings. The largest recommended AR is about 4.1

Byzantine math: You can estimate the number of rings needed for a certain length - the answers using this technique are in the chart above. I have adjusted them based on actual counts - the tightness of the weave makes a difference. Basically the length of Byzantine is made up of lined up inside diameters - half at 4 rings wide and half at 2 wide. This works out to the IDs lined up and multiplied by 3.
1"/(ID of ring in inches) *3 = # rings per inch So using this 1"/(0.25")*3 = 12 rings per inch
Make sure to round up - this is an estimate!
If you end up with a Byzantine that is too loose you can try adding a 3rd connector ring to stiffen the weave.
If you end up with a Byzantine that is too tight you can remove one connector and make single connector Byzantine.
