Scale Shirt
This vest, and many other projects, can be made using our leaf shaped scales connected by rings.
You can see many ideas in our Inspiration Gallery.
Making the vest is an advanced project, but don't let that scare you off. Just imagine the satisfaction after the work is done!
These scales do not have to be connected as shown for the vest. They can be placed in more open weaves and used however you wish.
For example: pauldrons (shoulder armor), jewelry, dance belts, halters,curtain fringes, candle holders and flowers...

Punched from 1/2 hard temper anodized strip (anodized the same both sides unless noted). The sides of the scales are not anodized. Thickness varies from 0.025'' to 0.03'' based on color. It doesn’t affect the appearance and you can mix a fatter with a thinner scale. Due to this variance we cannot guarantee 100 scales in the mixed bag - it will be close. All scales are bagged by weight.
* The scales noted with an * are bulk anodized. They will have touchmarks and the edges will be colored.

These scales are brushed aluminum that has been anodized. They are not mirror shiny and not matte but somewhere between. They have a clear anodized finish on them to preserve the color. The color and shine level is excellent! They are a white undertone. The non-anodized brushed aluminum scales are a grey undertone.
Once this stock is gone the thickness of this scale will change to the same as the other large AA 0.032''.

These are SPLIT RINGS - not butted rings. This means they have an overlap like a key ring. These rings are harder to use while weaving and need a split ring plier. Once they are woven though, you will need to do very few repairs. The scales will not slip off of these ring. This makes these rings perfect for active use scale projects.
If you don't need this advantage and want easier to weave scales use our standard butted jump rings. You may use any material but I recommend stainless steel. Small scales use 18g 3/16" and large use 16g 5/16".
